Spots of the Heart was written as a love letter to every child (and adult) who has ever felt unseen, unheard, or unworthy because of how they look, move, learn, or live.
Leo's story is simple by design—but its message is layered. Behind every spot is a story: of race, of disability, of difference.
In today’s world, children are exposed to more than ever before. They see injustice, experience exclusion, and often don’t have the words to name what they feel. My hope is that this story opens the door to those words—and that it reminds readers of all ages that the most important spots we carry are the ones in our hearts.
"Just read your book! Fabulous!! Awesome!! Love the vocab and questions at the end!"
"This story is beautiful!"
"...the glossary at the end of the book was such a thoughtful addition."
"Beautiful story."
